We stayed at the Radisson Blu Royal hotel http://www.radissonblu.com/royalhotel-copenhagen. The website boasts city center, but I was surprised to exit the train station, and right across the road there it stood. Talk about convenient! Walking through a busy city dragging your luggage is never fun. We were smack in the middle of everything. It was pretty incredible, my first time staying at a hotel with such a great location.
Our room was a Royal Club room on the 12th floor which is a corner room. We actually had a hallway in our room, it was that big. We had 3 phones in the room, with one being in the bathroom! Best part of the room was the wall to wall windows. Oh the views were simply amazing. You could see forever! I know what you’re thinking, “sounds good but what about sleeping in with the sun shining in”. There were curtains to block the early morning light. Another great feature about all those windows….they opened!
Part of our package was a free breakfast buffet. Breakfast was served on the top floor (20th floor). Here the wall to wall window theme was repeated. No matter where you sat for breakfast, you had an incredible view. At that height, the docked cruise ships could be seen. But who had time for the views with the huge spread of food before them?
I have never seen such a large breakfast buffet in my life. They offered fresh fruit, eggs, breakfast meat, cereals, yogurts, breads, pastries; just to name a few of the items to sample. We waddled out of there every morning, ready to face the day.
I got the opportunity to have a tour of hotel and learn a bit of the history. The hotel was built for the SAS (Scandinavian Airline System) airline and was the first skyscraper in Copenhagen. It was designed by Arne Jacobsen with unique design elements such as the famous Swan and Egg chairs. Room 606 has been left in the original design. It was nostalgic to see the turquoise colors of the 60’s. It was pretty neat to see all the thought Mr. Jacobsen put into the design of the rooms. No space was wasted. I also got to view room 506 which features the latest remodel. Wow. I think I could have lived in that room.
It was an incredible hotel to stay at, we enjoyed every second of it! Below are some pictures of the room and the huge breakfast buffet (couldn't get in all in one shot), as well as the views from our room.
