We will fly into Copenhagen and take the train into Lund when we arrive. Lund is a university town with a population of around 82,800 with around 42,000 students. The town was founded in 990. Can you imagine that? The university was established in 1666. There is lots of history in a city of that age. The city is located on the southern tip of Sweden so the weather tends to be fairly mild. In the summer Lund enjoys 17 hours of daylight giving visitors plenty of time to explore. However, in the winter they only have 7 hours of daylight.
There will be plenty to keep us busy as the city boasts botanical gardens, a cathedral, and several museums. You all know I love browsing around museums, so we’ll be visiting a few. Lund hosts the largest open-air museum with over 30 buildings. It is the 2nd oldest in the world!
I am looking forward to fika. Fika is a Swedish tradition of taking a break with a beverage (coffee or tea) and something to eat. My daughter describes all the wonderful pastries she has sampled at fika and I can’t wait to try some of them. After a few days in Lund we’re all headed to Copenhagen, Denmark.
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark which was founded as a Viking fishing village. As Zoee has been to Copenhagen she will act as our tour guide while there. Our short stay won’t allow us to see all there is in Copenhagen but I’m sure we will do our best to see as much as we can of the city. The city offers everything a tourist could wish for and more.
The public library is so large it requires many levels with escalators! Three beaches can be reached within 15 minutes of the city center; the waterfront called Nyhavn with its colorful buildings is a photo opportunity I am anxious to see. One can climb aboard boats to cruise the canals, visit the many parks, gardens and a zoo. There are many museums to explore, as well as 2 of the oldest amusement parks in the world called Dyrehavsbakken and Tivoli Gardens.
I can’t wait to tell you all about our trip and share my photos with you all. Most of all I can’t wait to see my daughter!
