I’d start my day with tea and scones in the crypt at St. Paul’s Cathedral. While sipping on tea I can imagine if the walls could talk what stories it would tell. I wonder at the happiness of life seen through the years: weddings, christenings and worship. On the opposite, I think of the sadness and despair it has also witnessed as the many tombs testify. After breakfast I would taken in all that is St. Paul’s and climb the stairs to the top, and see London from a bird’s eye view.
From St. Paul’s I would take the tube to Tower Hill. Learning to maneuver around London via the tube is part of the adventure. Then I’d head off to explore the Tower of London and all it has to offer. Then a stroll around the river area, or perhaps even a river cruise to rest my tired feet. After my brief rest I would stroll across the Tower Bridge and take tons of pictures of the area.
Next would be one of London’s museums. There are so many choices it would be hard to pick just one but it would most likely be either the British Museum or Victoria and Albert Museum. Both are so large I could spend a whole day visiting one. Since time is standing still in my perfect day, I will have time to explore both to my hearts content. I will grab an early lunch at Victoria & Albert Museum because it has an awesome restaurant!
At noon I will go watch the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. This is a must see whether a first time visitor or a frequent visitor. I love seeing all the guards dressed in their uniforms, the horses, the band, all marching in unison. After my morning of touring historic sites and places, its time to do some shopping. I’m heading to Regent & Oxford Street for an afternoon of browsing the shops.
Its now early evening and I’m ready for a little tranquility so I’m headed for Regents Park. I’d make a beeline straight for Queen Mary’s Garden. Since this is my perfect day, its early summer and the flowers are in full bloom. The flowers are absolutely gorgeous, and the atmosphere in the park is calming and relaxing. But now it’s getting dinner time and I’m heading to Westfield Mall to eat at one of the wonderful restaurants. After eating I will probably browse the mall a bit.
As night descends on London, I will be descending on Piccadilly Circus. The night lights, the music, the sights, and the sounds. Only one word to describe Piccadilly Circus: fun! It’s been a long day and I’m exhausted. I gratefully sink into a comfy bed in one of London’s luxury hotels and drift off to sleep. But wait….I forgot about Portabella Road, the Eye of London, Big Ben, and I’ve got to go to Westminster Abbey! I’ll need more than one perfect day to see all I want while in London. I love this place!
